Beaujolais Région and Old Lyon
Oops, I somehow missed a day somewhere along the way, but I’ll try to catch you up now. The ship is great, the people (83 guests on board) are friendly, the crew is very accommodating, and the food is overwhelming. We are traveling south on the Rhone as I write this on Saturday afternoon, and, in fact, we are dropping down through a lock right now. Friday was interesting. We left the dock on the Rhone, headed just a bit south to the confluence with the Saône River, and then up the Saône a few miles, where we boarded our buses and headed out through the countryside of the Beaujolais wine region. Two main stops were on the agenda: the old small village of Oingt (say “wahngt”), and a stop at a vineyard/winery to see some grapes growing just a week before the harvest and do a little wine tasting.
